BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND BACHELOR OF SURGERY (MBCHB) – 5 YEARS
Admission
a)Criteria
I. Direct Entry Scheme, candidates must have;
• Sat the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and obtained a certificate in it.
• Obtained two advanced level passes in Biology and Chemistry taken at the same sitting of Uganda and obtained at least a C pass in each of them.
• Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), must also have done Physics or Math and obtained at least a subsidiary pass in it.
• Obtained minimum weighted points shall be determined by the Admissions Board
II. Mature Age Entry:
A candidate must sit and pass the mature age exams set and marked by the faculty of health sciences. He/she must satisfy alltheotherrequirementsforadmissiontotheUniversityunderthematureageentrance the scheme
III. Diploma Holders Entry Scheme:
A candidate must have the following;
• A diploma in a health-related discipline
• Working experience of at least 2 years in those relevant fields
Such diploma holders shall include;
i) Medical Laboratory Technologists/ Technicians
ii) Clinical officers (formerly called Medical Assistants)
iii) Radiographers
iv) Physiotherapists
v) Anesthetic officers
vi) Ophthalmic Clinical officers
vii) Orthopedic officers
viii) Orthopedic Technologists
vii) Environmental Health Officers
viii) Public Health Dental Officers
ix) Dispensers/ Pharmacy Technicians
xii) Psychiatry Clinical Officers
xiii) Uganda Registered Nurses ‘A’ level certificate holders
xvi) Uganda Registered Midwives A-level certificate holders
- Degree holders scheme:
A candidate may have first attained either one of the following bachelor’s degrees with a CGPA ≥ 2.7.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BNSc)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BNSc)
- Bachelor of Medical Radiography (BMR)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (BBS)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) – 5 years
Admission Criteria
Direct Entry Scheme:
Candidates must have;
- Sat the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and obtained a certificate in it.
- Obtained two advanced level passes in Biology and Chemistry taken at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), must also have done Physics or Maths and obtained at least a subsidiary pass in it.
- Obtained a minimum weighted points as shall be determined by the EQUSaT Admissions Board
Mature Age Entry:
A candidate must sit and pass the mature age exams set and marked by the Faculty of Health Sciences. He/she must satisfy all the other requirements for admission to the University under the mature age entrance scheme
Diploma Holders Entry Scheme:
A candidate must have the following;
- A miminum of a second upper diploma or its equivalent in a health related discipline
- Working experience of at least 2 years in those relevant fields
Such diploma holders shall include;
- Dental officers
- Medical Laboratory Technologists
- Physiotherapists
- Anaesthetic officers
- Clinical Ophthalmic officers
- Clinical Orthopaedic officers
- Environmental Health Officers
- Public Health Dental Assistant
- Public Health Assistants
- Dispensers
- Psychiatry clinical officers
- Uganda Registered Nurses ‘A’ level certificate holders
- Uganda Registered Midwives A level certificate holders
- Clinical officers (formerly called medical assistants)
Degree holders
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BScM)
- Bachelor of Medical Radiography (BMR)
- Bachelor of Science Physiotherapy (BScPhysio)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (BBS)
- Bachelor in Clinical Medicine and Community Health (BCM)
- Higher Education Certificate (HEC)
It is planned to admit 30 students annually.
Higher Education Certificate in Biological Sciences (HEC-Sciences) – 1 Year
Minimum Admission Requirements:
1. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education or its equivalent with Subsidiary Passes in Biology and Chemistry. For students intending to pursue degree programmes in Medical Radiography, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Biomedical Sciences or Optometry, the entry requirement shall be Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education or its equivalent with Subsidiary Passes in Biology and Physics.
2. Technical/Vocational Qualifications in Biological Sciences or Health-related disciplines such as Nursing/Midwifery, Environmental Health Sciences and Laboratory Techniques; that are considered equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A-level).
3. Students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to the Ugandan A-level (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education) but permit admission into Higher Education in their respective countries. Such students shall be required to have an equivalent of Uganda Certificate of Education with at least a credit in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Foreign students whose studies were not conducted in English shall show proof of proficiency in the English Language.
Higher Education Certificate for Humanities and other Non-Health Science Programmes.(HEC-Humanities) – 1 Year
Minimum Admission Requirements:
1. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two subsidiary passes or its equivalent. At least one of the subsidiary pass shall be from a principal subject. For avoidance of doubt, a holder of UACE with only one principal pass shall be deemed to meet the admission requirements.
2. Vocational Qualifications at level 2 or level 3 of the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework.
3. Qualifications equivalent to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as shall be determined by the National Council in consultation with the Uganda National Examinations Board.
4. An ordinary certificate from an institution recognized by NCHE.
5. Students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to UACE but permit admission into Higher Education in the foreign country. Such students shall have passed at least five subjects with a minimum overall grade of C (equivalent to a Uganda grade 5). In addition, foreign students whose studies were not conducted in English shall show proof of proficiency in the English Language. The English proficiency centers shall be accredited by NCHE.
BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (BIT) – 3 Years
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be admitted to the Bachelor of Information Technology program, a candidate must satisfy the minimum admission requirements for the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and EQUSaT. There are 3 possible entry schemes into the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes; Direct Entry, Diploma Holders, and Mature Entry.
Direct Entry:
Candidates seeking admission through direct entry must have obtained: –
(i) At least two Principle passes in any subject at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
(ii) The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent, with a minimum of five passes and should have obtained a pass in Mathematics.
Diploma holders:
(i) Have a diploma in computer science from a university recognized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE),
(ii) Have at least 5 passes obtained at the same sitting of Uganda Certificate of Education(UCE) or its equivalent
(iii) Have at least 1 principal pass and 2 subsidiary passes from the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent
Mature Age Entry:
Candidates that have completed the mature age entry examination from a recognized institution are legible for admission.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – 3 Years
Admission Requirements.
Generally, admission into the BBA degree at EQUSaT will be based on and governed by the minimum standards as set by the NCHE. Given the standards by the NCHE, the following requirements must be fulfilled by applicants for admission into the BBA degree programme at EQUSaT. Three categories are to be considered. The three categories are:
(a) Direct Entry
For a candidate to be admitted under this category must possess the following qualifications:
(i) Five (5) passes at O level and one of the passes must have been obtained in Mathematics
(ii) Two (2) principal passes at A level and one of them must have been obtained in Economics OR Entrepreneurship
(b) Diploma Entry
Applicants under this category must possess a relevant diploma of at least Second
Class Lower OR its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning.
(c) Mature Age Entry
Under the Mature Age Entry category, an applicant aged 25 years and above will be admitted into the BBA degree programme at EQUSaT if he/she passed the mature age examinations with an average of 50%. The Mature Age Results must have been accredited by NCHE.
