Masaka - Bajja, May 1, 2025.
In a vibrant celebration of appreciation, unity, and relaxation, the staff of Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) gathered at Bajja to commemorate Labour Day 2025. The event brought together academic, administrative, and support staff in a festive atmosphere designed to honour the dedication and hard work driving the university’s growing reputation.
The day’s activities began at around 10:00 am with an interactive introduction session where staff members shared their roles at the university and insights into their private ventures. This was followed by a refreshing breakfast.
After enjoying the meal, the team—joined by the Chief Guest, Dr. Rosie Agoi, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo—embarked on a guided field walk across the scenic 84-acre Bajja campus. This exciting tour included nature exploration and a hands-on guava-picking experience that left many participants thrilled. The team also visited Bajja Estate, where staff were encouraged to take advantage of the SACCO scheme to acquire affordable plots of land.
The approximately 2.5-kilometre walk was widely applauded as a rejuvenating health activity, especially appreciated by those accustomed to sedentary office routines.
Following the walk, a spirited games session commenced, featuring four teams competing in various engaging activities such as quizzes and brain teasers. The games fostered teamwork, fun, and laughter among colleagues.
A hearty lunch followed, where staff indulged in a variety of delicious dishes, enjoying the meal in a relaxed and communal setting. The surrounding community was also welcomed to partake in the celebration, sharing in the food and joyful atmosphere.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in driving the university forward.
“What we need is unity, cooperation, and a willingness to support one another,” he said. He urged staff to believe in the university’s vision and to align their efforts with its mission and core values.
Chief Guest Dr. Rosie Agoi echoed these sentiments, placing particular emphasis on ethical conduct and integrity in the workplace.
“What I want to stress is the importance of ethics. When you earn money through honest work, you are more likely to thrive. But ill-gotten gains rarely last,” she said.
Staff expressed appreciation for the celebration, noting how such gatherings strengthen the sense of community within the university. The day concluded on a high note, with renewed enthusiasm and a shared commitment to building a stronger EQUSaT for generations to come.
