EQUSaT Hosts Impactful Third Youth Empowerment Program in Partnership with HHRD

Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) together with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (@HHRD) launched the Third Youth Empowerment Program drawing a vibrant turnout of young people eager to engage, learn, and be inspired.

 

The event was officiated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, and supported by Helping Hand for Relief and Development (@HHRD), which played a key role in facilitating the impactful initiative.

 

A highlight of the opening session was the empowerment of youth with disabilities, who received wheelchairs aimed at enhancing their mobility and boosting their productivity. The move was lauded as a step toward inclusive development and equal opportunity.

 

Among the keynote speakers was Natasha Nakkazi, EQUSaT’s SDG Ambassador, who addressed the urgent issue of climate change. She urged the youth to be conscious of their actions and decisions regarding the environment and encouraged the development of climate-focused projects. She also pledged her support for students who initiate climate-related programs.

 

Prof. Mpezamihigo shared insights on entrepreneurship and financial empowerment. He emphasized the importance of a mindset shift in financial decision-making, encouraging attendees to believe in themselves, set clear financial goals, and take bold steps.

 

“To build a successful business, you must watch your attitude, control your mood, manage your temper, sentiments, tone, and uphold discipline,” he noted.

 

He also reminded aspiring entrepreneurs that business comes with risks and challenges, which must be embraced and managed with resilience.

 

Digital expert and youth parliamentary leader, Mugabi Moses Paul, explored the role of digital technology in leadership. He urged young leaders to leverage Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms to effectively serve their communities. However, he also cautioned them to be mindful of their digital footprint, as what is shared online can have lasting implications.

 

Nansamba Rukiya, an accountant at EQUSaT, delivered a session on financial literacy, urging students, youth, and staff to cultivate good financial habits. She emphasized the value of saving, strategic planning, and investment as essential tools for financial growth and independence.

 

The day’s activities concluded with a lunch session and the awarding of certificates to participants. Prof. Mpezamihigo thanked @HHRD for their generous support and collaboration, which empowered not only students but also members of the nearby community.
