EQUSaT Guild Government Dissolved in Leadership Transition

The Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) officially entered a transitional phase following the dissolution of its Guild Government on November 29. Outgoing Guild President Ahmed Baryamujura formally handed over the political reins to Speaker Guma Nicolas Claus, who now assumes the role of Interim President. Claus will oversee preparations for the upcoming guild elections scheduled for next year.

In a handover ceremony held at the university’s campus in Kasijjagirwa, Masaka, Baryamujura expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and highlighted the achievements of his administration.

"It has been a privilege to lead and represent our student body. I trust Nicolas Claus to ensure a smooth transition and uphold the democratic processes of this university," he remarked.

The transition places Nicolas Claus at the helm as Interim President, tasked with managing guild affairs and ensuring a fair electoral process. Claus vowed to maintain transparency and inclusivity during this critical period.

“This is an important moment for our university. I am committed to organizing credible elections and safeguarding the interests of all students,” he said.

The guild elections are expected to attract significant student interest, with various factions already gearing up to field candidates. The EQUSaT administration, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhamad Mpezamihigo, has emphasized the importance of a peaceful and orderly process.

The dissolution marks the end of Baryamujura's tenure, characterized by initiatives aimed at fostering student welfare and collaboration with key university stakeholders. As the university braces for new leadership, the focus remains on strengthening student representation and building on past successes.
