Where Science Meets Purpose: Inside the Laboratory with Balabyekubo...

Long before students step into hospitals and diagnostic laboratories, they first learn to trust their hands, sharpen their observation, and respect the science behind every result. For many at Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT), that journey begins in the Biochemistry Laboratory under the guidance of Balabyekubo Samuel.
As a Biomedical Laboratory Technologist, Samuel oversees the University's Biochemistry Laboratory while supporting operations across all science laboratories. Behind every practical session is careful preparation, ensuring that students don't simply perform experiments, they understand the science that gives each procedure meaning.
For Samuel, education is measured not by the number of lectures delivered but by the confidence students gain along the way.
"What inspires me is the opportunity to share knowledge and help others grow from being novices to becoming experts in Biochemistry," he says.
That commitment recently earned him heartfelt recognition from his students, a moment he describes as both rewarding and motivating.
"It reminded me that my efforts have been seen and appreciated. It inspires me to welcome every new cohort with the same passion, patience, and commitment."
What continues to fuel his work is his love for practical science. Watching a student finally understand a laboratory concept and knowing they will carry that knowledge into the healthcare profession, is what makes every day worthwhile.
His advice to students is as straightforward as the laboratory principles he teaches:
"Read hard because it is not over until it is over."
In laboratories, precision matters. So does perseverance. Through both, Balabyekubo Samuel continues to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals not only to produce accurate results, but to appreciate the responsibility that comes with every test, every analysis, and every discovery.
